Thursday 28th March - walk *** – Orwell Country Park, nr. Ipswich – sunny start then cloudy with rain.

After yesterdays full on session and with winds forecast to build to 40/50 knots with rain I decided to give today a miss, especially as I woke with yet another cold, perhaps I can get out tomorrow? The day started off really nic e with sunshine so managed to do my exercises before packing a picnic and despite the strong winds we drove over to Orwell Country Park near Ipswich for a walk in the woods to see if the bluebells had arrived. Parking up at 11.45 it had clouded over and looked like rain but we set off, although the wood floor was covered in bluebells there were very few blooms, probably in a couple of weeks, we will have to try again. It is always nice to walk down through the trees being sheltered from the wind. It was a different story when we reached the banks of the River Orwell with a chilly strong wind blowing across the river, definitely not the weather for a picnic here so we walked along the beach before turning inland to the small holding and were treated to a good variety of birds and animals, the horses came to see us, there were loads of sheep including some cute black sheep, the Guinee fowl were there as was two very muddy pigs! We carried under the Orwell bridge and up the path by the very noisy A 14 as the rain arrived! So we had our picnic in the van before heading to B & M for a big spend, got some good stuff too!
